ITBP retain Eagle Trophy

ITANAGAR, Aug 16: Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Kimin retained Eagle Trophy defeating FC Doimukh 3-1 in a thrilling final match at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Naharlagun yesterday.

Both the teams started the match in an attacking note creating good scoring opportunities. But it was Nguri Alin, who put the FC Doimukh (FCD) ahead in 17 minutes (1-0). He dribbled past several players, including the defenders and goalkeeper and pushed the ball slowly into the net sparking wild celebration among the supporters in the gallery.

Stung by first half goal, the paramilitary force went for all out attack in the second half to restore parity but their attacks were thwarted by FCD defenders.

ITBP found the equalizer when Gumli Riba converted a pass from Madhu Singh in 54th minute. Gumli again scored in 60th minutes to give his team 2-1 lead.

The ITBP team changed the game tactics in the second half and adopted long-range passes which clicked. SC Bhutia sealed the victory for ITBP scoring the third goal in 68th minute (3-1).

The match kept audiences on the edge of their seats, with even commentator Pei Chandra Murtem expressing great excitement throughout the 90 minutes.

The ITBP team walked away with the winner’s trophy along with cash prize of Rs two Lakh while runners up FC Doimukh received cash prize of Rs one Lakh along with trophy.

In the individual category, the award for best goalkeeper of the tournament was won by Prem Kumar of ITBP while Nguri Alin became the highest scorer. Yowa Helis of FC Doimukh was adjudged as the most valuable player of the tournament.

The awards for the winners and runners-up were sponsored by Chief Minister Nabam Tuki while Arunachal Pradesh Congress Seva Dal (APSD) Chief Organizer Kipa Kaha sponsored the individual category awards.

AICC general secretary (in-charge Arunachal Pradesh) Luizinho Faleiro attended the final match as chief guest.

Solung United lifts Itanagar Solung Football trophy

ITANAGAR, Aug 16: Solung United Football Club, the defending Champion of Itangar Solung Festival Football Tournament grabbed the Itanagar Solung football trophy for two consecutive terms by beating Banggo United Football Club by 3-2 goals in the final match played at Sangge Ladhen Sports Academy's football ground, Itanagar on August 15 last.

General Modi, Talo Pabin and Obuk Tali scored one each goal for SUFC. While Yonkiram Tayeng scored two goals for BUFC.

Meanwhile, the Itanagar Solung festival sports secretary Tarok Lomtung informed that the 3rd edition of Tamulang Taloh Memorial Volley Ball Tournament would start on August 18. He urged all the team members to summit their team list immediately.

The various sports awards of the tournament will be distribute on Solung festival.

Amongst others, MLA Gum Tayeng and Itanagar Solung Festival Celebration, President Belatee Pertin witnessed the final match of the tournament.

VVFC win I-Day Running Football Trophy

ITANAGAR, Aug 16: VVFC won the 9 Warriors 10th Independence Running Trophy Football Tournament beating Mukum Mapa FC 2-0 in the final at KV No 2 playground here yesterday.

Taba Zirzo and Rigio Tapu were the scorers for the winning team.

Tali MLA and Parliamentary Secretary Markio Tado and City SP Seju P. Kuruvilla enjoyed the final match and encouraged the youths towards games and sports.

Councilors Jumi Bogum Teli, Gora Tallang and Tatung Tania also attended.

Zaaro Football Cup concludes, CFC lifts the trophy

CHANGLANG, Aug 16: Zaaro Football Cup organised by Zaaro Sports Committee, Changlang on the occasion of 68th Independence Day concluded here at Changlang general ground today.

Changlang Football Club (CFC) beat Govt. Hr Sec School, Changlang team by 1-0 in the final match.

Jokam Wangsu scored the lone goal of the match in favour of CFC.

Wenkhum Lulin of School team was adjudged as Player of the tournament and Remmat Jugli of CFC, received the best goalkeeper award.

Changlang Deputy Commissioner, Chanchal Yadav appreciated the good performances and sportsman spirit displayed by the players in tournaments. She urged them to keep themselves engaged in games and sports activities to channelize the energy in a right purpose.

The Zaaro Sports Committee informed that their main objective behind organising the tournament was to promote sports activities in the area and provide an opportunity to the youth of the district to showcase their talents. The tournament was sponsored by Changlang North MLA Tesam Pongte.

Python releases by student leaders

ITANAGAR, Aug 16: A six-meter long python was today released to Itanagar Zoo by ANSU president Byabang Joram along with students’ leaders of All Palin Chambang Yangte Gangte and Tarak-Langdi Students Union (APCYGTLSU).

The Python was captured by students’ leaders at Hoj-Doimukh road between Potin and Hoj. Releasing the python, ANSU president appealed to the people not to kill the animals, saying that it would bring ecological imbalance. Zoological curator Raya Flago termed that such noble gesture by the students leaders would inspired others in wild lives conservation. He also said that students’ leaders should create awareness among the people on importance of wildlife animals. After verifying, Vet medical officer Dr. Sorang Tadap said that python was in good health. Later Zoo authority gave certificates to the students leaders.

Drinking water supply disrupted

ITANAGAR, Aug 16: Drinking water supply at twin capital cities of Itanagar and Naharlagun including Nirjuli has been disrupted due to damage of water supply pipelines.

While the 300mm DI pipe line which supplies drinking water to Naharlagun and Nirjuli Township, was badly damaged by the landslide, the main water supply pipeline of Donyi Polo School has also been damaged yesterday night. However, the concern department is working day and night to repair the damaged pipe lines to restore water supply. However, it will take 3 to 4 days to complete the restoration work, informed Executive Engineer, PHED, Itanagar.

Feeder channel of Pacha hydel damaged

SEPPA Aug 16: The feeder channel of Pacha hydel was severely damaged by landslide due to heavy rainfall on August 15 last, informed Er. Ojing Nobeng, Executive Engineer(C) DHPD, Seppa.

The landslide damaged the feeder channel measuring 100 m. It would take atleast two months to restore the channel in normal weather condition but it may take more time if rain falls within the course of restoration and water level doesn’t recede.

He also informed that there is paucity of fund for restoration works and sought for immediate placement of fund. Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Kumar Singh along with ADC, DPO and EE (Elect) visited the damaged site on August 16..

Zilla Lokh Siksha Samity meeting held

PASIGHAT, Aug 16: The 5th annual meeting of Zilla Lokh Shiksha Samity was held under the chairmanship of East Siang District, Deputy Commissioner Nidhi Srivastava recently at the conference hall of Deputy Commissioner.

During the meeting, the DAEO-cum Member Secretary J Yirang while highlighting the problems, inform that the subsidiary bank accounts system is the major hurdle in the implementation of the flagship programme fund released in the month of Jan’2014 from the district account could not be drawn by the panchayat till date due to the defective bank account system. The other major hurdle is the lack of awareness on the part of PRI Members about the role & responsibilities in the implementation of SBM at various levels as no training was given to them after the re-constitution of panchayat after the election in 2013. It is worth mentioned that, the State Resource Centre( SRC) an NGO whose responsibilities are to provide technical support & services in the district had organized a training for a single block without the knowledge of the concern authorities.

While taking part in the discussion, ZPC Kaling Dai wanted to know the funding & functioning of the NGO in the district. He said that being the chairman of the ZLSS the fund position & activities in the district must be brought to his knowledge.

PMC Chief Councilor Denong Tamuk assured to extend all possible help for conducting of the level I learners Assessment test in Pasighat.

A ‘Dzom-Khang’ for Dirang

DIRANG, Aug 16: A ‘Dzom-Khang’ or a common meeting hall for Dirang was inaugurated and opened by Parliamentary Secretary Hydro-Power Development Phurpa Tsering here today.

Located near Additional Deputy Commissioner’s official bungalow, the hall was constructed by PWD within a budget of Rs 12 lacs. The 100-seater hall would be used for holding meetings and conferences.

Dirang ADC D. Riba said that the hall was a long felt need of the people of Dirang. He expressed gratitude to the local MLA and Parl Secy HPD Phurpa Tsering for placing another Rs 20 lacs for extension of the hall.

Phurpa said that he was immensely impressed by the ‘Dzom-Khang’ at Tawang and wanted Dirang to replicate the same. ‘The credit for conceiving and execution of the project within a meager fund solely goes to the ADC and the people of Dirang would always remember him for this asset’. Dirang Zilla Parishad Member Chumpi Merakpa also joined the opening of the hall.

Besides HoD’s of Dirang and Bomdila, panchayat and public leaders of Dirang attended the brief function.

Tree plantation by IGNOU study centre

ITANAGAR, Aug 16: A tree plantation programme was organized by IGNOU (Indira Gandhi National Open University) study centre, Tezu to mark Independence Day yesterday.

Fast growing saplings were planted in the premises of IGNOU study centre at Indira Gandhi Government College, Tezu by its staff.

Sensitization cum awareness prog on IWMP held

ITANAGAR, Aug 16: A 7 days sensitization-cum-awareness training programme on newly sanctioned IWMP (Project) for SHGs, user group, Watershed committees and stakeholders was held in various villages under Khenewa CD/Block recently.

Khenewa BDO Kule Dada, who organized the programme, while highlighting the guidelines and objectives of the scheme, requested the stakeholders of the project for sustainable development and creation of durable assets.

During the training programme the GPS reading base line survey and PRI exercise were conducted in the concern project areas, according to an official release.

ABK youth wing takes stock of Roing incident

ITANAGAR, Aug 16: A team of Adi Bane Kebang Youth Wing headed by its President Aling Pinggam and Secretary Toi Modi along with office bearers of Adi Students Union visited the spot at Bismaknagar, Roing in Lower Dibang Valley on August 13 where one Lt. Nong Pertin was found death recently.

The team also interacted with the relative of the deceased and also with the police and the district administration.

The youth wing team said that the police investigation process is praiseworthy as police disclosed that they would solve the case shortly.

The ABK YW President A Pinggam also raised concern over the repeated killing of Adi people in the Lower Dibang Valley and added that it needs a serious attention from district administration and the police of Lower Dibang Valley District.

Meanwhile, the team also took stock of the flood situation at Mebo sub-division as the several parts of the region of that area remain cut off due to incessant rain. The team also appealed the DC Pasighat, Nidhi Srivastava at her office chamber on August 14. Responding to the ABK Youth wing, Deputy Commissioner said that, she is keeping close vigil of the every situation and development through concern departments including others like BRTF.

Society seeks PSO for CJM

ITANAGAR, Aug 16: The All Liyak Welfare Society has demanded PSO for the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Yupia.

In its memorandum submitted to the home minister, it said that the CJM has been denied basic requirements.

Also asking for driver and other basic facilities for the CJM, it further warned to fulfill the demand within seven days or face democratic movement by the society.

It is the duty of the state government to safeguard the interest of the public by way of safeguarding the judicial officers, the memorandum read.

SAI to conduct trial

ITANAGAR, Aug 16: The Sports Authority of India has decided to set up an academy for athletics in Trivandrum with three special centers for the events of jumps, throws and middle and long distance running. As such, SAI, SAG Centre, Naharlagun has been directed to conduct trials to select 15-20 athletes for long distance running events (3000 meters, 5000 meters and 10,000 meters.)

Two of a family buried in landslides, scores injured

Rain create havoc in Capital region

ITANAGAR, Aug 16: Two persons were killed and one critically injured in a deadly landslide that occurred near BNSL colony opposite Circuit house here on Friday.

Victims were identified as Yukar Tanyik, (9) son of Yukar Taniang, and Yukar Yallang (14) daughter of late Yukar Tasang while the injured minor was identified as Yukar Tali (12).

The injured, trapped in the debris was pulled out after several hours of struggle by the rescue team at around 8.30 pm and immediately rushed to RK Mission hospital, where he is stated to be in critical condition.

The horrifying incident occurred around 2:30 pm, when victims were inside the house, said police.

The avalanche of mud and rubble submerged most parts of the building of one Yukar Taniang and completely damaged another dwelling house nearby.

After getting the information of the incident, a rescue team comprised of City Police led by SDPO Bomge Kamduk and OC T. Bage and ADM Talo Potom rushed to the spot.

The team engaged two excavators to clear the debris; however the rescue operation was slowed down by massive debris and constant sliding.

The bodies of two deceased were retrieved by the team early this morning after a night long of effort.

Chief Minister Nabam Tuki has expressed shock at the deaths and has announced ex-gratia payment of Rs. 150000/- each to the kith and kins of the deceased and also announced relief for the critically injured as per relief norms.

The chief minister appealed the people, especially those residing in vulnerable areas, to remain alert to avoid recurrence of incidence. Tuki urged them to shift to safer places.

Parliamentary Secretary cum Tali MLA Markio Tado who had visited the landslide site expressed shock and grief over the tragic incident. He urged the government to provide immediate ex-gratia to the affected families.

Several people were injured elsewhere due to landslides as rain lashed the city. Many dwelling houses were reportedly damaged and washed away by the landslide and flash flood.

A portion of National Highway at Karsingsa washed away

Itanagar: The road communication between Banderdewa and Itanagar via Karsingsa remained disrupted for the second day today due to washing away of road and culverts at singking zone near Karsingsa. The road currently is closed for all types of vehicles.

Unprecedented rainfalls in the last four days have washed away road formation and culvert at sinking zone near Karshingsa snapping road communication.

The district administration has asked the motorists to use Nirjuli-Doimukh-Harmoty road and Itanagar-Hollongi road to take NH-52 in Assam.

The Chief Engineer, (PWD) Western Zone in a release, informed that restoration work is in progress and it may take two to three days to reopen the road for vehicular movement.

Massive landslides also occurred in between Itanagar and Naharlagun yesterday causing disruption in traffic movement. However, the road was cleared by employing men and machineries on war footing, the CE informed.

Landslides have also occurred in Chandranagar, Nitivihar and many other sectors in the Capital Complex blocking the roads.

Meanwhile, Karsinga ASM Taniang Kipa in a representation has appealed to the Chief Minister to solve the road communication problem from Banderewa to Itanagar via Karsingsa, which is disrupted every year near Karsingsa, particularly during rainy season.

The students, patients, officer goers and business community have been the worst sufferers, the representation said.

The efforts of the department concerned to maintain the road has so far proved futile before the nature, the representation said, and urged the Chief Minister to direct the Highway Department to start the construction of Four-Lane project from Banderdewa, via Karsingsa to Itanagar solve the problem once and for all. It also requested the Chief Minister to allocate sufficient fund for repair and construction of the damaged road at sinking zone in the greater interest of said area.

Meanwhile, Papum Pare Deputy Commissioner Tai Kaye along Kimin EAC, Circle Officer and OC today inspected the block point at 22 km from Kimin to take stock of the situation.

The Deputy Commissioner has directed the GREF officials to work in war footing for early clearance of the blockade. The main block point at 22 km is likely to be cleared by tomorrow, the DC informed.

The Kimin-Ziro road also remained blocked since August 14 due to massive landslides at various points.

RAJBHAVAN: The Governor of Arunachal Pradesh Lt. Gen(Retd) Nirbhay Sharma was joined by differently abled children from Donyi Polo Mission Schools for Visual and Hearing Impaired, Chimpu and Raj Bhawan officials in celebrating the day.

BOMDILA: The 68th Independence Day was celebrated at Buddha stadium in the district headquarters Bomdila with great pomp and show.

Congratulating the district administration, the election machinery, Police / Para military forces and all those who facilitated for the peaceful & successful conduct of the simultaneous Parliamentary and Legislative elections in the district, MLA Japu Deru opined that team work coupled with consistent effort and a clear cut road map always prevails.

Referring to the developmental activities after formation of the new government, MLA Japu Deru informed of the sanctioned 20 crores Housing schemes for 300 BPL families / development of slum areas and the Sub-station for Nafra in the district under NEC. He also referred to the proposal for reconstruction of the District Hospital into a multi-specialty hospital and various other schemes under SPA amounting to around 900 lacs.

The finals of the Independence cup Football trophy was played in the second half of the day where Police Colony FC beat NEFA Hills FC 5-4 in the penalty shoot-out. The winners coolly walked away with the trophy and a cash award of 50,000 while the Runners Up had to contend with the cash award of 25,000.

Changlang: Unfurling the tri-colour amidst huge gathering Officers, Officials, Public, Gaon Burahs, Panchayat Leaders and students, MLA Changlang North Tesam Pongte said that all the 13 villages in Changlang North Assembly constituency will be connected with all weather roads in next five years. He also gave his assurance to introduce weekly bus service to those villages connected with road under the constituency.

Terming the young generation as backbone of the society he urged them to stay away from drug and opium addiction.

YUPIA: Deputy Commissioner Papum Pre Tai Kaye informed that Govt is planning to establish a Power Training Institute in the district and District administration is also trying its level best to identify a suitable land at Doimukh area for a permanent site for Govt College, Doimukh which is temporarily functioning at GHSS, Doimukh. He further informed that President of India is likely to visit Yupia Headquarter during November 2014 to attend the 1st Convocation of National Institute of Technolgy(NIT) Yupia.

ZIRO: The 68th Independence Day was celebrated at the Subansiri Stadium, Hapoli with great fanfare. Member of Legislative Assembly, Tage Taki, emphasized on quality development of roads at the twin town of Ziro and Hapoli and informed that the road from Pariami to Manipolyang will start soon.

The District Hospital of Ziro has been upgraded to a General Hospital and a special package of Rs. 2.66 crores has been included in the AOP for procurement of X-Ray machines, Ultrasound machine, Ambulance, power pack up system to fully functionalise the blood bank, he said.

Namsai: On the occasion of the 68th Independence Day of the nation, it was twin happiness for more than one lakh residents of Namsai subdivision in Arunachal Pradesh as the government has declared Namsai as the newest district of the state.

Addressing a huge gathering, Arunachal Pradesh parliamentary secretary for forests and environment Chow Tewa Mein on Friday announced the functioning of the new district in presence of minister for agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry and dairy development Chowna Mein and local MLA Chow Zignu Namchoom.

The 68th Independence Day was celebrated in General Ground Khimiyang circle in Changlang district with pomp and gaiety. Phosum Khimhun MLA cum Parl Secy Trade and Commerce and Geology and Mining, who unfurled the Tri-colour on the occasion, reminded the people to value the freedom that we enjoy today. Informing the public that the Government has prioritized Horticulture sector along with Hydropower and Tourism he urged them to take up cardamom cultivation in large number and assured to assist them in all ways possible. Women College a nonstarter as UD building not ready yet

Itanagar, Aug 16: With great fanfare, the Chief Minister in his budget speech had announced creation of women’s college and commencement of the class from the current academic session. But the college has run into problems even before the start.

The building, UD shopping complex in Lekhi village was earmarked for the college but the parts of the building is illegally occupied by an individual who is reported to have opened a nursing home.

The court hearing for eviction is slated for coming Tuesday.

The other section of the building is allotted to Mother’s Home, a home for the destitute. The Mother’s Home was served a notice to vacate the premises by August 20 by the Capital Complex deputy commissioner, which attracted wide spread criticism from the citizens.

An embarrassed chief minister Nabam Tuki, who visited the building that led to issuance of eviction notice, has reprimanded the DC for taking a “hasty decision without providing a suitable alternative to the destitute”.

Mercifully for Mother’s Home, the CM has categorically instructed that they are not disturbed till a suitable site is located.

On the other hand, it means that women’s college will have to wait till the government decides where it wants to house the college.

The hasty decision to start the classes from the current academic session without basic infrastructure has made it difficult for all involved.

When contacted by this daily, Taw Azu, principal in charge of the proposed women’s college said that classes were supposed to start from Aug 19 but the building is not ready so classes will not be conducted as announced earlier. Students will be notified as soon as all arrangements are made to start the classes, she said.

The UD shopping complex building was never used for the purpose it was built for and now the latest episode suggests lack of coordination between the UD and Education departments and the govt.

It remains to be seen what decision the government takes next.

ABK laws must be implemented in toto: ABK

ITANAGAR, Aug 16: The Adi Bane Kebang in order to strengthen the Adi customary laws has adopted and modified certain Adi laws for well being of the Adi community, therefore, any Adi members particularly Gam Burahs/Buris and Kebang Abu should follow the Laws/ayon of Adi Bane Kebang ayon book while making any kebang decision said Adi Bane Kebang, General Secretary Bodong Yirang while attending the first meeting of Adi Bane Kebang Papum Pare District Unit at Itanagar today.

He informed that all the decision and resolution passed during ABK general conference at Tuting should be implemented in all the Adi inhabited areas in toto. He said that Solung Logo, Solung Flag, and Adi Anthem adopted by the Adi Bane Kebang should be materialized and followed by Adi people.

Yirang urged all the district units of ABK to work dedicatedly for the welfare of the community and all round development of the Adi inhabited areas.

He also informed that a Sainik School will be established at Ngorlung, East Siang District soon as almost all the officials documents/formalities have been cleared.

ABK advisor Belatee Pertin also advised the Papum Pare District Unit to take collective decision before making any plan, policies and activities to be carried out by the unit to avert mistakes and errors.

He also appealed to the adi community to give support and encourage any individual who are active and excellent in certain activities and field.

Pertin while discouraging collection of donation for festival celebration from other district and state. He said that there are many unions and organisation of our community living in different parts of the country. But during festival eve they use to come to Arunachal particularly in state capital to seek donation from senior members of the community. Such type of unfair practise should be discouraged by our people.

ABK, Vice President Getom Borang informed that from this academic year, ABK has decided to felicitate meritorious students among the differently abled children of the community.

Paglam inundated by flood water

ROING, Aug 16: Paglam village of Lower Dibang Valley District is inundated by flood water of Dotung River since August 12 last due to torrential rainfall informed Dambuk ADC Atul Tayeng.

The ADC’s reports said that nearly 200 families have been affected by the flood water including the Govt. Secondary School building, dwelling houses and granaries at Paglam. It was further informed that the flood affected families are temporarily taking shelter on PWD Main Road.

Meanwhile, the administration has provided 30 quintals of rice from its monsoon stock to the affected families. Since the road connectivity to the area is blocked from all sides, the administration is not able to reach to the site. However, the situation is under constant monitoring, informed Tayeng.

Meanwhile, to discuss the prevailing flood situation in Paglam Circle and other areas of the district, Lower Dibang Valley District, Deputy Commissioner Shiv Kumar has called an emergency meeting of District Disaster Management Authority in his office chamber today. He directed all the officers and officials of working department under Dambuk and Paglam Circle to return to their place of postings latest by August 19 and cautioned that FIR would be lodge against the absentee government officer/s under Disaster Management Act. He also constituted a team of officers to visit the flood affected site as soon as the road connectivity is restore to ascertain the actual loss caused by the flood.

He also asked DF&CSO to make the buffer stock available regularly in flood affected areas and if situation demands to press for more quantities. He also said that since the area is under the constant threat of flood every year, a committee headed by ADC including officers from WRD and a ZPM will be formed to deal with such situation in future.

It was also informed that the Sine River at Dambuk is flowing above the danger level and over flow of the river water is flowing near to the dwelling houses of Remi Village adjacent to Dambuk township. In the meantime, the Administration is constantly monitoring the situation. DIPRO

RGU VC releases book on eco-tourism

ITANAGAR, Aug 16: A book titled “Ecotourism in North-East India” authored by Assistant Professor of Rajiv Gandhi University Dr. Maila Lama was released by RGU Vice Chancellor Prof. Tamo Mibang in a simple function in the VC secretariat at Rono Hills on Thursday last.

While releasing the book, Prof Mibang said the book will acquaint the people with treasure of Northeastern region.

Stating that eco-tourism has immense potential in North East for its unparrellel natural beauty, Prof Mibang lamented that we are still unable to exploit this potential due to poor tourism infrastructure and poor road connectivity, particularly in Arunachal Pradesh.

Further, he said that existing regulations are also playing as a deterrent to the flow of both domestic and foreign tourists to this state. He suggested that intellectuals should come forward to address these issues. He hoped the book will draw this region closer to other parts of the country and the world.

Earlier, Prof. A. Mitra, while introducing the book said that this is the first empirical work done on ecotourism, and the fact that Arunachal Pradesh is being opened to tourism in recent times, this book will be handy to the students, research scholars, environmentalists, policy makers and tourists.

The author of the book Dr. Lama said that his book has given emphasis on ecotourism development to help ecologically rich areas of North East India, especially Arunachal Pradesh combining economic progress and environmental conservation, suggesting that with proper planning and policy the whole region in general and the state of Arunachal Pradesh in particular can usher in a socially acceptable, environmentally sustainable development path.

State BJP leaders call on Union Tribal Affairs minister

ITANAGAR, Aug 16: State Bharatiya Janata Party Pradesh Tai Tagak accompanied by National BJYM Secretary, Doni Nich and State ST Morcha President Tadar Akap called Union Minister of Tribal Affairs Jual Uram in New Delhi today and apprised the Union Minister about various welfare and tribal development policies, schemes and projects appropriate for the sensitive border state and other North East states.

The Union Minister was also apprised about the need of giving special attention for welfare and development this tribal state. The BJP president also highlighted and emphasized the need of proper research and development institutions for promotion of and documentations of tribal folk-tales and folk-lores for strengthening the time tasted living culture and tradition of the tribal populations, promotion of tribal textiles and handicrafts and invited him to visit to Arunachal Pradesh.

Officers’ Team lift 2nd I-Day Open Badminton Championship trophy

ITANAGAR, Aug 16: Officers’ team lifted the championship trophy in the 2nd Independence Day Open Badminton Championship at Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) organised by the Officers’ Club, RGU on Thursday evening.

The pair of Marpe Sora and Dr. Dukam Taipodia clinched the doubles titles defeating the duo of Tai Bai and Dali Dolo 19-21, 21-15, 21-9 on Thursday last.

Marpe is an Assistant Professor in Computer Science and Engineering of Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) while Dr. Taipodia is the Medical Officer of PHC Doimukh. Tai Bai and Dali Dolo are post-graduate students.

In another nail biting match for third place, the research scholar pair of Techi Sissal and Imbo Pulu got the better of the duo of Terge Sora and Tsewang Dorjee.

The best player award was bagged by Dr. Taipodia, while the disciplined player and best emerging player awards went to Nabam Bomi and Chukhu Ramesh respectively.

The trophies and cash prizes with citations were given away by the Vice Chancellor Prof. Tamo Mibang.

Medo in Wakro circle gets a mini library

ITANAGAR, Aug 16: “Be proud of your very talented children. And it is your responsibility to guide them to a better life ahead”, exhorted Ravi Jha, ADC Namsai as he inaugurated the Mini Library, under Lohit Youth Libraries Network at Namgo, a hamlet in the Medo area of Wakro circle, on Tuesday.

“Lead your children to this library and thus help them develop a good life tomorrow, avoiding bad habits”, he advised the villagers who had thronged to the function in spite of incessant rains for the last 2 days. Applauding the excellent display of reading activities by APNE Library reader-activists, many of whom were from Medo area, he declared a grant of furniture and cash for the smooth functioning of the newly founded library.

Chairing the meeting, EAC Wakro, Dakto Riba, expressed his profound happiness in the maiden visit of the ADC to such a remote area on the occasion of the National Library Day and hoped the people would take efforts to develop reading habits and benefit from such generous support by the Administration and patrons like the IAHV Read Library Trust, London, who had gifted the books for the Namgo Library.

Outlining the origin of the new Mini Library at Namgo, Coordinator, Lohit Youth Libraries explained that it was an unknown friend from London, Ashish Monga, who took the lead to discover such rural initiatives and then enthusiastically patronise it.

The highlight of the function was a series of book related activities presented by the APNE Library activists and the young local children whom the activists had trained in a workshop in the morning. The item that won loud cheers of course was the skit in Mishmi ‘The Kaniyaa (the opium addict), which set everyone roaring with laughter, but sent the message through powerfully.
